Joe Kokenge

Joe Kokenge uses Python to gather and process public data for journalism related projects and web applications. He's scraped data from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, pharmaceutical companies, the Texas Railroad Commission, the City of San Antonio, and filed Freedom of Information Requests in nearly all 50 states. He uses Django not only to turn public data into web applications for the civic good, but he's also found it to be a great data analysis tool. He recently used GeoDjango to manage a geo-spatial analysis of 10 years of San Antonio building permits. He's yet to find a dataset that can't be scraped, imported into PostgreSQL and published with Django.
