Dietary Needs

Dietary Needs

Sept. 2, 2015 by Jeff Triplett

A quick note about our catering options for DjangoCon US next week.

After attending conferences with friends who have food allergies and/or special dietary needs, we know what a terrible experience that can be. Let's face it, at some conferences “vegetarian” is code for “salad with iceberg lettuce” and “vegan” means “salad without cheese or dressing”. We get it.

When we were vetting our venue, it was important to us that we were able to accommodate as many people as possible in the context of a corporate venue. What the venue offers is a menu of varied options at each setting, which can accommodate a wide range of (but not all) dietary needs. The menus provide a mix-and-match of dishes to suit omnivores, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets. For those who keep kosher or halal, we recommend choosing the vegan and gluten-free options. The menus also have reasonable non-meat protein options available, so that everyone gets fed.

While we can't meet everyone's needs, we are providing some example menus so that you can decide upfront if our catering options suit your requirements. The venue cannot confirm a final menu (the menu changes seasonally), but they did provide some typical meal plans for us to review. Please take a look.

We hope that the expanded menus will provide a more pleasant experience for everyone when it’s time for lunch.

See you in Austin!
